Concert Review: Mary J. Blige's 2010 London's O2 Arena

November 3, 2010

SINGER MARY J Blige proved that she still has it at London's O2 Arena last night (Nov 2) for the capital's leg of her 'Music Saved My Life' tour.

Taking to the stage with a full live band and a talented trio of background vocalists, the 'Queen of Hip-Hop Soul' wowed the crowd with a selection of popular tracks from her impressive back catalog.

Her gimmick-free set came complete with renditions of crowd pleasers, 'Real Love,' slow jam favourite 'Not Gon' Cry' and a stripped down version of her personal favourite ‘Take Me As I Am’ performed with her Musical Director Omar – also MD to hip-hop star, Jay-Z - on the piano and a guitarist.

Following her highly emotional rendition of the track, she then launched into a soulful tirade to naysayers who have criticised her in the past, telling the crowd she was happy with 'the fat on my arm' – A statement, which received rapturous applause.

It's been two years since Mary performed in London and she admitted that she was glad to be back thanking the crowd for their continued support and acknowledging that "The Mary J fans are in the building!"

A great night! Mary did not disappoint!
