"Betty & Coretta," the Lifetime original movie, featuring Mary J. Blige, Angela Bassett and more, debuted strong Saturday. According tofigures released Tuesday, the movie was watched by over 2 million viewers.
Showcasing the bond between Dr. Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King, two women brought together by the tragic deaths of their husbands, Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Betty & Coretta" was viewed by a total of 2.235 million viewers.
With Mary J. Blige as an executive producer, along with actors Malik Yoba and Lindsay Owen Pierre, portraying King and Malcolm X respectively, "Betty & Coretta" covered a lot of ground, giving viewers a glimpse into the relationships both women developed. "Betty & Coretta" also covered some of their personal struggles.
"I wanted people to see what "Betty & Coretta" had to deal with and how everyone is not so perfect. We expose that in the film; how Coretta dealt with that," Blige shared prior to the premiere. "That's what I wanted out. The fact that they put their husband's differences aside and looked at the bigger picture."
An encore airing of "Betty & Coretta" is slated for Saturday, Feb. 9 at 10 p.m. on Lifetime.
